Associated Press Stylebook is the standard for public relations writing. Ron will review the essential elements of AP style, with particular attention to newer areas dealing with Internet and digital media. He then will apply these standards to various types of publications that may call for modifications of AP style: news releases for print, broadcast and digital media; internal newsletters; websites and blogs, and; advocacy letters. This workshop with Ron will be interactive, so bring your questions and thoughts on using AP style and adapting it to various public relations situations you have encountered. The workshop will highlight various online resources, including the "Common Sense Stylebook for Public Relations Writers" from one of Ron's textbooks on public relations.

Ron Smith is professor of public communication at SUNY Buffalo State. He teaches public relations research, strategy and writing. He is former chair of the Communication Department and former associate dean of the School of Arts and Humanities. Ron is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and has served as chapter president and district chair. He also has been named “Practitioner of the Year” by the PRSA Buffalo Niagara Chapter, received the chapter board’s “Distinguished Service Medal,” and was twice nominated as “Public Relations Educator of the Year” by PRSA National.
